The Aerospace industry uses a wide variety of exotic materials

In the manufacture of jet engines, ceramics, titanium alloys, zirconia and nickel alloys are used.
More complex composite materials, such as carbon and glass fibre reinforced plastics, are essential in creating durable, lightweight components and structures.
Lightweight non-ferrous materials such as titanium, magnesium, aluminium and alloys of the three are also keen components used exclusively within the industry.

With all of these processes Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) systems need to be in place to protect employees form the air borne contaminants created.

Maintenance of Aerospace Dust Control

All dust extraction equipment used to control dust must be maintained to ensure the system effectively reduces dust at the source and protect those in the vicinity from inhalation and exposure. The LEV system needs to be examined and tested at least once every 14 months as per HSE guidance (HSG258). LEV records must be kept for at least 5 years.
